Charter Member, Phyllis Giroux
Phyllis started training Chesapeake Bay Retrievers in the 1970’s. She had a puppy bitch that she bred to a very famous Chessie and kept a puppy from that breeding.
She then became involved in running field trials (AKC Hunt Tests were not yet in existence), NAHRA tests as well as Gun Dog Competitions and eventually purchased her first Labrador Retriever in order to be more competitive in those competitions.
In addition to being one of the founding members of RRRC, Phyllis belonged to several other retriever clubs, including the Virginia Retriever Association and the Mid Atlantic Retriever Club (both NAHRA clubs). She also formed her own club (Back Bay Knotts Island). Phyllis’ father, Ed Giroux is a Legacy Member of RRRC.
At one point, Phyllis was a professional dog trainer but is now an amateur again. She became a licensed Hunt Test judge in 1995.
In her 45 years of training and handling retrievers, she has had many accomplished dogs, including FC Penney’s Nifty Bouncer, FC Cock of the Walk (both State Gun Dog Champions), GRHRCH SIlverbrook Return To Sender MH SRS (Super Retriever Series) Bronze Medalist, GCH CH Can CH UKC CH Poplar Forest Play It Again Sam UD RE MH MHU (first ever Master Hunter Upland Labrador Retriever) and Deep Run Moondog CD RE MH NDL QAA to name just a few.
Phyllis is a graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is also a Certified Animal Chiropractor, trained in acupuncture with advanced training in canine reproduction.
She currently lives in Goldvein, VA where she owns and operates Deep Run Canine Health Care and Dog Days Inn at Deep Run Farm
